Vandalism at PA School Reveals Suppression of Truth in Unbelieving Hearts

One of the hardest things for us to remember is that as we fight the wickedness in this world the reason people get so angry with us is because we shed light on their darkness. When this happens, they and all around them can then see how vile their actions and beliefs are. So when a display was set up at a Pennsylvania university, we should not be surprised that this provoked a reaction. And likewise, we should expect that such reaction would show the fact that these unbelievers are without excuse.

Christian News reports

Students for Life at Clarion University erected 350 crosses on the campus on Sunday evening in a display known as the “Cemetery of the Innocents.” Each cross was to represent 10 children who had lost their lives that day from abortion.

But the following morning, it was discovered that a number of the crosses had been pulled up out of the ground and thrown into trash cans. Some of them had been broken. A few had messages written on them, such as, “Would you support if this life was gay?” and “Would you support if this life were trans?”

Though the Christian News article focused on the discrimination aspect, I want to point out something that we often overlook. These people, whoever they are, know that abortion is murder. Set aside the gay and transgendered language. Instead, let’s focus on what they say that these babies were; a life. These crosses represent ten babies murdered every day. These people did not say, what if these tissues had turned out gay or transgendered. No, they let us see that they are without excuse.

The truth of the matter is that this display pushed into the light their sin. It is not that these crosses proved anything to them. These crosses did not somehow convince them that those thousands of abortions performed every day was murder. If a group of people set up crosses for all the viruses which the administration of antibiotics kill everyday, I am not going to be angered.  I do not know anyone who seek to disrupt such a display, because I know that viruses are not human and never will be no matter how long I leave them unchecked.  The crosses reminded them of what they already knew and suppressed. These children were murdered!

Something very similar occurred last year

“[All] 350 crosses were pulled up and re-inserted in inverted fashion, a well-known anti-Christian symbol,” the group Students for Life reported. “Additionally, red paint was splattered on crosses and signs. Even eerier was the mock bloody footprints of an infant painted in front of the display.”

Again, this wicked display of disregard shows the level of angst that the light produces in the lost. They make fun of what abortion is because they do not want to face their own sin. They do not want to think that they are complicit in mass murder and infanticide. But, we must hold tight to what God says about their guilt. Romans 1:18-23

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.

These students want to destroy the crosses because they shine light on their darkness.  This light shows them who and what they are; sinners, murderers, and haters of God. Pray that through such displays, these students will be brought to repentance and faith.  This will be the only way that this wicked practice is stopped.
