There are few things worse than to find out that someone is not who they say they are. This kind of deception brings hurt and questions concerning our own judgment. But, what if someone who clearly was one way, turns and claims to be another way altogether? How do we react when a wino becomes a Christian? Are we not a little apprehensive? Of course we are and for good reason. But what about a swingers club? What would you think about a group of people who meet for the express purpose of sleeping with each others spouses?
Christian Headlines reports
A Nashville swingers club is now claiming it is a church so it can earn city approval to open next to a Christian school.
It should anger us that people who clearly have wicked intent would use the title of church to break the law. It is not surprising that the wicked do wicked things, but it is insidious to take the name of Christ’s bride to identify oneself, so that you can continue to break His law. So, when we hear that a swingers club is re-identified itself as a church, we should be enraged. We should be especially enraged when it is clear that this was no more than a pragmatic move.
Christian headlines continue
The club is called The Social Club and its new building is near the back of Goodpasture Christian School, a private school for students in preschool to high school.
School officials found out about the club after anonymous letters were sent to the school, and parents and others planned to protest a zoning change to keep the new club from opening.
So, the reason for the change is simple. The city will not allow them to operate as a sex oriented business so close to a school or church. And since the Christian school could count as having associations with both, the Social Club would be zoned out. And the switch was only thought about when the Christians in the area were called upon to take action.
The Chicago Tribune writes
Parents and religious leaders were called on to pack the Metro Nashville Council chambers to support a zoning change to prevent the club from opening. That’s when the club, which had spent $750,000 on the building and begun renovations, suddenly transformed into a church.
So the question is whether or not the city is going to allow such a ruse to pass. It seems that according to the Constitution, there is little anyone can do, but wait for the Social Club to slip up.
The Tribune continues
Metro Zoning Administrator Bill Herbert said the department takes applicants at their word, so inspectors are treating the building as a church. As long as the United Fellowship Center is in compliance with codes, it will receive permission to operate.
“If it is not operating as a church, that’s an enforcement issue,” he said. “We can tell them to cease and desist, and if they refuse we can enforce it through the courts.”
The Constitution does not allow for defining of a Church. We know this is for the protection of Christian conscience, but it is now being used as a covering for sin.
Here is the issue that I have with this “Club.” If you have a group of people who are Lawbreakers, the level of their depravity will continue to increase. They will go further and further in their deviance, and their desire will be for more and more filth. This will in turn increase their desire to break the Law. Where will it end? And with young and impressionable children nearby things could become very dangerous for the children. This thinking is what led city leaders to make such zoning laws restricting SOB from opening in such close proximities to schools.
This once again shows that if we neglect the observance of the Law of God, then our society will do far worse. I discuss the Church and God’s law in my book, An Everlasting Covenant. Get it here.
The only saving grace is that these deviants will likely show their true nature before it has time to endanger the children.
