In a wide-ranging and mostly pandering interview for the slobberingly pro-Obama New York Times with the slobberingly pro-Obama Thomas Friedman, President Obama claims to understand why Israel is worried about the recently struck deal with Iran.
Now, what you might hear from Prime Minister Netanyahu, which I respect, is the notion, ‘Look, Israel is more vulnerable. We don’t have the luxury of testing these propositions the way you do,’ and I completely understand that. And further, I completely understand Israel’s belief that given the tragic history of the Jewish people, they can’t be dependent solely on us for their own security.
But what I would say to them is that not only am I absolutely committed to making sure that they maintain their qualitative military edge, and that they can deter any potential future attacks, but what I’m willing to do is to make the kinds of commitments that would give everybody in the neighborhood, including Iran, a clarity that if Israel were to be attacked by any state, that we would stand by them. And that, I think, should be sufficient to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see whether or not we can at least take the nuclear issue off the table…
Apparently, while President Obama PRETENDS to understand the worries and frustrations of Israel, he obviously completely misses the deeply embedded truths that gives birth to those worries. The President just gave his go ahead on a deal that would allow Iran to continue developing their nuclear capabilities. Iran is a nation that has on various and sundry occasions called for the complete annihilation of the state of Israel while calling the Holocaust of WWII a fiction! Iran is also a theocracy ruled by a religious leader who believes that death, while furthering the Islamic cause, is the only sure-fire way to get to Heaven! Iran is a nation whose people believe that if they die trying to kill all the Jews and wipe Israel off the map… it would be a worthy death that would bring them all GLORY! How can Obama even pretend to understand Israel’s concerns if he’s even the least bit willing to give Israel more time to develop their nuclear capabilities?!!?!
It’s a complete freaking farce.
