NBCI Breaks Fellowship with PCUSA over Sodomite Definition of Marriage

One o of the most difficult thing for a Bible-believing church is to perform discipline on a sinning member. To say to a person that you have loved and worked with, that they are showing themselves to be non-believers. That they can no longer participate in the means of grace of communion, and fellowship is heart-breaking. But, there are two very important reasons that this must be done.

The most important thing that we must recognize is that both Christ and Paul command discipline. It matters little what we think it will accomplish or how it makes us feel, we must obey our master. Christ tells us how and when this is to be done in Matthew 18. When we follow these steps, we are calling our brother to repentance and protecting the purity of Christ’s bride.  Which is the second reason that Christians must preform this duty.

Paul also says that this is to be done in the matter of public sin, such as was the case in I Corinthians 5. From these, we see that if we know of sin in a supposed brother, we are not to ignore that sin or overlook it, but confront that sin. If the sinning party refuses to turn from that sin, we are then to exclude them from fellowship. Paul says not to even eat with such a one (I Cor. 5:11).

I say all this to point to the actions of the NBCI, which has dis-fellowshiped from an entire denomination.

Christian News reports

The National Black Church Initiative (NBCI), a coalition of approximately 34,000 churches representing an estimated 15.7 million African Americans and Latinos, has cut ties with the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA) after a majority vote was reached among the denomination’s regional presbyteries to redefine marriage.

As we reported, the vote was getting close and that we were viewing the death of a denomination. In both of these articles, we discussed the fact that this may be a point of no return. That the PCUSA was finally sliding into full apostasy, with its redefining marriage to include sodomite unions. Now finally we see that I am not alone in this assessment.

“NBCI and its membership base are simply standing on the word of God within the mind of Christ,” President Anthony Evans said, according to Charisma News. “We urge our brothers and sisters of the PCUSA to repent and be restored to fellowship.”

This is not Evans passing final judgment on the PCUSA, but it is a marking out of these churches for their apostasy. This is the NBCI attempting to shake awake the PCUSA. They, as should all Christians, hope that this dis-fellowship will work repentance in the hearts of its false and compromising leaders. I will allow Evans to finish.

“No church has the right to change the Word of God. By voting to redefine marriage PCUSA automatically forfeits Christ’s saving grace. There is always redemption in the body of Christ through confession of faith and adhering to Holy Scripture,” Evans continued. “In this case, PCUSA deliberately voted to change the Word of God and the interpretation of holy marriage between one man and one woman. This is why we must break fellowship with them and urge the entire Christendom to do so as well.”

Well said Mr. Evans, I hope your loving wounds will open their ears. Prov. 27:6

Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.
