Republican Congressman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) took to Fox News earlier this week to blast President Obama’s decision to try to make an end-around Congress and write his own laws regarding gun ownership in America. Chaffetz told Fox New’s Greta Van Susteren that the President never contacted anyone in Congress to discuss the possibility of passing new gun control measures through Congress. In fact, the President has of late been making it a practice to simply write new laws regardless of Congressional approval.
The President is not a king, he is not a dictator, he is an elected representative who MUST act within the boundaries of his office. Chaffetz is right to demand a stop to the President’s lawlessness, but when will the Congress stand to ensure that Obama cease and desist? Thus far, Congress has been a paper tiger on this subject, and the President will never take their threats seriously if they continue to dither, hoping that he’ll simply tire of breaking our laws.
If Congressional Republicans want to end the madness and stop Obama’s reckless and illegal behavior – they’ll have to do something about it. The time for talk has passed.
If President Obama is truly concerned about public safety, maybe we should start with Fast & Furious when he gave guns to drug cartels. Then he wants to let terrorists out of Guantanamo Bay and basically put Iran on a path to a nuclear weapon. DHS had 66,000 people who were here illegally, got caught, got convicted, and instead of being deported, they were released out into the public. If we go back through those, many of those people are involved in gun crimes.
As an American citizen, I have the right to defend myself. This president has done everything he can to try to hamper law-abiding citizens rather than going after the criminals. When you release 66,000 known criminals that you have in custody, that is not making the country more safe.
