New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R-NJ) has “seen the light” so-to-speak, and now believes that a path to citizenship for illegal aliens is not in the best interest of our nation. In a recent interview with Fox News Channels Megyn Kelly, the Governor seems to have completed an amazing about face on the illegal immigration issue. This is not unprecedented among the GOP candidates. For example, Marco Rubio abandoned his amnesty efforts (or did he), Scott Walker had his own conversion experience, and Jeb Bush is constantly massaging his amnesty agenda to make it sound less like amnesty and more like… not amnesty.
Now Chris Christie is joining this cavalcade of GOP stars to renounce his love of amnesty and enter the ranks of “real” conservatives. I’m pretty sure that Christie’s team has simply decided that illegal immigration is the best place for him to shift to the right in an effort to assuage conservative fears about a possible Christie Presidency.
Here’s the candidate explaining his change of tune on immigration.
“I think I have learned over time about this issue and done a lot more work on it. I think everyone has to do what you need to do to be able to get educated on these issues and learn. Back in 2010 I was in my first couple months as a governor.
I have now learned some of the ramifications for all of these things.”
